Palm Cove
Beautiful Palm Cove is located approximately half way between the tropical city of Cairns and the majestic Port Douglas, the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef.
Palm Cove is a sophisticated beachside town that is both cultured and relaxed. The main street, Williams Esplanade is a destination for those seeking great food and stylish shopping.
Williams Esplanade is a shared zone space that happily fuses holidaying couples in search of a romantic restaurant, families enjoying a meal together and tourists basking in the beachside ambience of the small town. Along the esplanade is a long stretch of cafes, restaurants and the Coral Sea framed by paper bark gums and palm trees on the other side.
The beach at Palm Cove is an ideal base for families and those that enjoy the water. The beach is regularly patrolled and is protected by nets during the stinger season. There is a children’s playground set on the surrounding grass area with year round sea-cooled breezes.
From the jetty at Palm Cove catamarans regularly pick up passengers to take them to the Great Barrier Reef. Snorkelling or scuba diving is one of the most amazing things you can do and is one of the great drawcards to the region. Boats also take holidaymakers out to nearby Green Island.
Other activities from Palm Cove include hiking in the nearby rainforests and golfing. There are several prestigious golf courses within an easy distance including the Paradise palms, the Sheraton Mirage and The Links located at Port Douglas.
You can’t visit the region with seeing the crocodiles; kids especially love Hartley’s Crocodile Farm. A tour to this popular destination can easily be arranged from Palm Cove. Another popular activity for children is visiting Cairns Night Zoo with their sunset feeding.
The Skyrail, which takes you through the rainforest treetops, or the famous Kurana steam train are other popular local activities. If you want to learn about local aboriginal culture, a visit to the Tiapukai Aboriginal Centre is a must.
